The idea for this collection came from a longtime, highly valued client named Zeynep.
Zeynep honored us by ordering a dress for her wedding in upstate New York, at an inn "reminiscent of Shaker homes and rural New England life, like in Louisa May Alcott’s books." Unable to design a solitary dress, we concluded it would be richer to create an entire collection as support and foundation for this project.
Some ingredients involved in the preparation:
- The years 1800-1850, among our favorite periods to work with, this time on the East Coast of America
- 4 Little Women movies (1933, 1949, 1994, 2019)
- The participation of a few Amish, Quaker, Shaker, and other communities determined to separate themselves from mainstream society to live by rules that are sometimes nostalgic, sometimes progressive, always intense
- Godey’s Lady’s Book, a women’s magazine from Philadelphia published since 1830
- Tasha Tudor (1915-2008), a children’s illustrator, whose depictions of country life inspired the photos of our campaign
- A newfound appreciation for the best-dressed animal, namely the cow
